On the sustainable perishable food supply chain network design: A dairy products case to achieve sustainable development goals

Perishable products require special handling measures that may have social and environmental impacts along with their well-known economic aspects. Therefore, the sustainability of food supply chains has gained ground; however, perishable chains, is still not a fully explored field study. in this research, multi-objective mathematical programming model developed to optimize cost, energy consumption, traffic congestion associated such chain operations. In study, product lifetime uncertainty explicitly modeled as Weibull random variable, perishability assumed be affected by vehicle refrigerator utilization, which considered decision variable. addition, multiple types are considered. A dairy case investigated, interrelations interactions all three aspects sustainability, also known triple bottom lines (TBL) studied. The results indicate emphasizing aspect, for highly products, impact increase 120%, congested road networks, rise 51%. However, 15% compromise can improve network design 150%. It shown uncertain critical factors can, although differently, affect operation chain. This study contributes sustainable development goals (SDG’s) Zero Hunger (SDG 2); Affordable Clean Energy 7); Decent Work Economic Growth 8); Industry, Innovation, Infrastructure 9); Responsible Consumption Production 12); Climate Action 13) Peace, Justice, Strong Institutions 16). suggest decision-makers significantly reduce influences even without drastically compromising aspect.
